Highlights – New Rules for Water Quality (Q.2, r.18)

You can rest assured that Ecclestone’s water quality will always be top-notch: New Quebec rules for water quality require our Lifeguards to adhere to the following protocol for water testing.
1 – Pool staff must maintain a log book recording the following results (CH III, Div. 1, par. 9):

  • DPD # 1 results prior to opening for the day, at closing and every 3 hours during operation
  • Ph results prior to opening for the day, at closing and at mid-day
  • DPD # 3 results prior to opening for the day, at closing and at mid-day
  • Temperature results prior to opening for the day, at closing and at mid-day
  • Clarity (black dot at deep end must be visible from 9 meter distance) results prior to opening for the day, at closing and at mid-day
  • Alkalinity once per week

2 – Samples must be collected and tested for bacteria by a certified laboratory every 2 weeks during the season (CH III, div.I, par.10).
3 – Pool must be evacuated and closed in the event of (CH IV, Par.18):

  • any release of fecal or vomitus matter into pool or any mechanical breakdown that results in degradation of water quality
  • DPD #1 reading over 5
  • DPD #3 reading over 1 for more than 24 hours
  • DPD #1 reading less than .3
  • when failed bi-weekly lab test is followed within 24 hours by another failed lab test

4 – Records must be kept for 2 years and records of last 30 days in a place accessible to any interest party (CH IV, par.22) 5 – Fines for contraventions range from $1000.00 to $40,000.00 (CH VI, par.23 – 28)
