Carl LaBarbera Leads ECC Boys to 3 Wins at Big Meet 2008

LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS!

The Ecclestone Swim Team put in a fabulous performance on Saturday at the annual NAA “Big Meet”, winning 8 event medals and finishing 5th overall out of 18 NAA pools. We scored 502 points in the meet for a total of 3216 points overall in the season – finishing second in the “B” Division to Valleycrest pool. As a result, Valleycrest will move up to the “A” division next year, and TMR Pool will move down into our division.

Carl Labarbera was the star of the show for ECC, taking home two gold medals. He was victorious in the 9-10 Freestyle event, and also anchored the 9-10 Relay Team to a first place finish. Gold-medal relay teammates included Jordan Phillips, Noah Craney and Isaiah Martel-Wilson. Noah added a second Big Meet medal to his 2008 collection, with a bronze in the backstroke.

Josh Janna took home the only other individual gold medal for ECC, winning the 8-and-under butterfly. Josh was also the anchor swimmer for the 8-and-under Relay Team that took a bronze medal overall for the season based on their time at the Time Trials last weekend.

Amanda Gagne stood out for the girls, winning two silver medals in the 13-14 age group. She was second in the breaststroke and butterfly and also anchored the 13-14 Relay team to a sixth place finish. With two individual top-2 finishes, Amanda was the leading point-getter for ECC. Way to go Amanda!

The girls 13-14 Relay Team also took the silver, with Amanda Kom, Amanda Beccherini, Emily Reny and Caroline Devita finishing second to a strong Elmpark team.

Our final silver medallist was Elisabeth Laflamme who celebrated her 8th birthday (Aug. 8) by improving her best time by over a second in the 25m breaststroke to finish second.

Congratulations to all swimmers who competed for ECC this summer, making it one of our best years yet!
